Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Training

OSHA approved Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) hazard awareness
and driver pre-certification training.
Statistics clearly indicate that more than one-third of PIT accidents involved pedestrians. Understanding the impact of this information we developed our awareness training utilizing the Small Group Activity Method (SGAM) of training. SGAM is a curriculum-based, learner-centered peer training that values the insights, understanding and institutional knowledge of the individual, and respects this knowledge as an integral part of the training.
Our PIT awareness-training curriculum covers the following topics:
- Hazards of Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT) (2 tasks)
- Mapping Hazards at Work (2 tasks)
- Systems of Safety (3 tasks)
- Identifying Near-Misses (3 tasks)
- Incident Investigation using the Logic Tree (2 tasks)
- Lessons Learned (3 tasks)
- The OSHA Standard, 1910.178 Powered Industrial Trucks (1 task)
- Safety Inspection Form, PIT and Forklifts
As a necessary component of the training we developed and deliver “pre-certification” driver training. As indicated in the CFR 1910.178 this training enables workers to be certified by their employers as PIT drivers and includes the following skill assessments:
- Forward Slalom – Turning Points
- Reverse Slalom – Turning Points/Line of Sight
- Forward Slalom – Traffic
- Load Handling – Forks/Travel/Stability
- Performance Assessment
Anyone wishing to participate in the driver pre-certification portion is required to attend the mandatory prerequisite awareness training.
